Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much do the pets cost? We requested a donation of $40 for each dog or puppy, cat or kitten..

2. Spay/neuter certificates are available for low income families.

2. Are all pets spayed or neutered? Yes, unless they're too young. Pets that are too young need to be spayed or neutered when they are old enough.

3. How do I get my new pet spayed or neutered ? Almost every vet performs this operation. Prices vary, and it may be wise to check with several vets before you make a decision. All but 2 Vets in Calhoun County accept League certificates.

4. Are the pets checked by a vet? All pets are seen by a vet. Those old enough are given the appropriate shots such as rabies, parvo etc. Dogs  are checked for Heartworm. We encourage the vaccination of kittens for feline leukemia virus.

5. Can I change my new pets name? Yes

6. What happens if the adoption does not work? Please return the pet to us. We will discuss the problem with you. Perhaps another pet would fit your situation. Returning a pet does not mean that you were a "bad parent". It is much better to return the pet rather than you or the pet be miserable.

7. Remember all pets have a personality, behavior is not always predictable. Please  never  leave a child unsupervised with a pet!

8. The League makes every effort to screen for health problems, but occasionally a pet will become sick shortly  after adoption. Once you adopt a pet, it is your responsibility to care for it and to provide medical care. There are no refunds. We  will take the pet back.
